That is an interesting question. Are you enjoying what you are doing? I think it is an essential element to art, and i think it shows in the quality of art you produce. Sometimes we may work on an "art" piece that we didn't enjoy, but i think that shows. But sometimes we might be excited about a project we just started and half way through we may get burnt out, that's how it goes sometimes, and i don't think your project is less when you reach that point; you may just need to take a step back for a minute is all.
I don't think you have to enjoy what you are doing for your work to be considered art. Personally though, I think life is a grand blessing and it becomes what we make of it. I think the art we make influences our own viewpoint as well as that of other viewers, why would I seek to create work that makes mine and others lives less enjoyable? I think art that does not rely on the enjoyable has a place but I will gladly leave that piece of the art world in the capable hands of others. I shall enjoy making mine.

I think a break can be very important in your work. I also think a lot of artist have more then one project going at a the same time and this helps.
